Correlator Graphical Setup is a tool that let's you visualize CARMA correlator bands in frequency space and see the spectral lines that you want to observe. Once you have the setup you like, you can click to get the Python setup commands to paste into your observing script. You can run it from your browser with Java Webstart or download the applicate JAR file and run it from the command line.
Note for Mac users: If you have Java 1.6 installed (or a newer version) and you are still having trouble loading CGS, you may need to change your Java preferences. To do this, go to:
Finder --> Macintosh HD --> Applications --> Utilities --> Java preferences
Then, drag the most recent version of Java to the top of the list. The one at the top is the preferred version.
- Run from your browser with Java Webstart
- Science Version [v2.3/2011-Aug-23] -
Additional velocity information displayed at the bottom of the center information box. Band are labelled by number. New and improved presets. New CARMA-23, DUALPOL, and FULLPOL modes (currently in state of flux). Improved help text. Additional minor bug fixes.- Note for high-z sources:
The CARMA control system does not currently do a full relativistic Doppler correction (see discussion in CARMA Bug #334). The current calculation is accurate to about a part in 10**9. The magnitude of the error is linear in velocity. For example, for an earth velocity of 25 km/sec along the line of sight to the source, a source velocity of 10000 km/sec and an observing frequency of 100GHz, the error in the sky frequency is 280 KHz.
What this means is that you should set up CGS using the source velocity (or Z) so that the tuning restfreq is redshifted - but make sure your catalog has VLSR=0 for the source.
- Number of channels and available BW modes consistent with CARMA offerings
- Improved Doppler shift functionality. Entering velocity/z to doppler shift will graphically shift the bands as well as the frequency. This keeps your line graphically in the band when you doppler shift.
- Added Snap to function that centers a Band on either the LSB RF or the USB RF.
- Added Doppler-tracked Sideband button that allows user to pick "AUTO", "LSB", or "USB"
And from Version 1.9:
- Generated script now uses configastroband, but parser will still understand old configband commands.
- Clarifies use of Doppler velocities and hopefully helps avoid user mistakes.
- In generated script, 3 velocity reference frames are printed out.
- Astroband numbering is consistent with CARMA usage.
To run CGS with Java webstart, you may need to configure your browser. If, when you click on one of the above links, your browser asks you what to do with a .jnlp file, tell it to open with javaws, which should be in the same place as java (Typically, /usr/java for Linux operating systems).
- Run on your desktop after downloading the .jar Files
- Science Version [v2.3/2011-Aug-23] (Right-click to download)
You must have JRE 1.6 or better to run CARMA CGS as a .jar. Navigate to the folder where the file was downloaded and use java -jar CGS.jar from a command line. You could also right-click and choose "open with Java" from a graphical environment.
The current version of CARMA CGS is v2.3/2011-Aug-23.
